We're seeking a highly motivated and skilled Private Secretary to support the Associate Minister for Regional Development. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the delivery of government priorities, working closely with the Minister, their office, and senior officials across MBIE and other agencies.

As Private Secretary, you'll play a pivotal role in managing the flow of work between the Minister's office and MBIE, providing strategic advice, coordinating briefings and meetings, and ensuring seamless communication. You'll be the key link between the Minister and officials, helping to shape and drive the regional development agenda.



This role would suit either an experienced policy advisor or a new senior policy advisor looking to get broader machinery of government experience.

  • Proven experience in a government, policy, or advisory role
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills
  • Strong judgement, adaptability, and ability to work under pressure
  • Understanding of regional development issues and public sector processes
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., public policy, law, economics)
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand and ability to obtain a "Confidential" security clearance
