What Will You Do? | Ka aha koe?
Key responsibilities will include:
- Maintain and update the Council’s rates and customer database, including direct debit applications and banking schedules
- Assist with statutory rates documentation, system processing, and compliance with legislation
- Support debt management services, including internal reporting, payment plans, and liaison with ratepayers
- Administer rates rebate processes and reconcile the rates rebate general ledger
- Provide high-quality customer service by responding to queries, service requests, and correspondence in a timely and professional manner
- Assist with financial reporting, audit support, general accounting, and the annual rates review
- Perform ad-hoc accounting and administrative tasks across finance and commercial services
- Support Council responses to emergency events as part of the wider team.

We are looking for someone with:
Essential:
- Experience dealing with customers in a service-focused role
- Attention to detail and ability to manage time-sensitive tasks
- Strong confidentiality and ethics in handling sensitive data
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence with Excel, Microsoft Office, and database applications
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workloads effectively
- Commitment to high-level internal and external customer service
Desirable:
- Knowledge of rating systems and relevant local government legislation
- Experience with financial systems and data handling
- Practical accounting knowledge
- Accounting-related tertiary or professional qualifications
- Clear understanding of accounting systems and procedures
