INZ is looking for an experienced international practitioner who wants to put their skills to use in a government context. Senior International Advisors are based in our Wellington office and provide support to the Manager International Engagement by producing strategic advice and assistance across the range of INZ's international engagements, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive organisational-wide position can be taken on all relevant activities.

International representation supports and enhances INZ's ability to meet its responsibilities and core functions. Senior International Advisors work in partnership with managers and INZ teams to ensure our international engagements and relationships strengthen our overall capability and help drive engagement, meet objectives, identify and manage risks and opportunities and make connections across international activities in all topic areas. In this role you will:


  • Work in a small team in the wider Associate Deputy Secretary Immigration Branch.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of strategies and plans to bring together diverse responsibilities into a coherent international approach.
  • Engage with our counterpart agencies overseas (including Australia, Canada, US and the UK) and key agencies in New Zealand, developing strong and collaborative relationships.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience in working in the international environment, preferably in a government context.
  • Experience in developing briefing papers which turn complex information into strategic advice.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and writing skills.
  • Experience in working with external agencies to achieve internal objectives and delivering outstanding quality service.
  • Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships.
