About the Role (your why)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior iSeries Administrator to join our Managed Operations team. This role is critical in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) environments across multiple client infrastructures. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to operational excellence in a managed services setting. Please note that on call is required in this role
What you’ll do
- System Administration & Maintenance
- Manage and maintain IBM iSeries systems including OS upgrades, PTF management, and system tuning
- Monitor system performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving issues
- Perform regular backups, disaster recovery testing, and capacity planning
- Operational Support
- Provide Level 3 support for incidents and service requests related to iSeries environments
- Collaborate with service desk and infrastructure teams to ensure timely resolution of issues
- Participate in on-call rotation and support after-hours maintenance activities
- Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain security controls, user access management, and audit compliance
- Ensure systems meet internal and external regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI-DSS, SOX)
- Automation & Optimization
- Develop and maintain CL programs, scripts, and automation tools to streamline operations
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to continuous service enhancement
- Client Engagement
- Act as a technical SME during client onboarding, migrations, and transformation projects
- Provide clear documentation and reporting to clients and internal stakeholders
Required experience:
- 7+ years of experience in IBM iSeries administration in a managed services or enterprise environment
- Strong knowledge of IBM i OS, hardware architecture, and system utilities
- Proficiency in CL programming, BRMS, and job scheduling tools (e.g., Robot, Control-M)
- Experience with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery solutions
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management tools (e.g., ServiceNow)
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
- IBM Certified System Administrator – IBM i
- Experience with PowerHA, MIMIX, or other replication technologies
- Exposure to hybrid environments integrating iSeries with cloud or modern platforms
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks and audit practices
