Mō te tūranga | What you’ll be doing
The role of Senior Legal Counsel enhances Meridian’s enterprise value by the commercially-focused and pragmatic management of legal risk and partnering with those business units accountable for executing Meridian’s strategy.
This role provides general and specialist technical legal and regulatory expertise to customers right across the Meridian group.
You will ensure legal and regulatory risk is understood in company decision making processes.
Drafting, reviewing and providing advice on, and assisting with negotiation of, a range of commercial contracts and arrangements.
Understanding the implications for Meridian of government, regulatory and public policy processes, announcements and legislation and where appropriate assisting with the preparation of submissions to government and regulators.
Assisting in the provision of company secretarial and governance responsibilities including compliance with NZX and ASX obligations.
This is a 12 month maternity leave cover, based in Wellington.

Previous experience in a general commercial role in a corporate law firm or in-house legal team.
LLB and practising certificate, or ability to provide advice as a foreign professional adviser.
Excellent written and verbal communication with an ability to communicate complex legal and commercial concepts to different audiences.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters and demands at the same time.
Commercial astuteness.
Collaborative working style and excellent relationship building skills.
