Senior Legal Counsel

Orion Health
Auckland, Auckland
3 weeks ago

We are on the hunt for a personable, quick-witted and commercially-savvy Senior Legal Counsel with a minimum of 10 years PQE to join our dedicated in-house legal team here at Orion Health!

As Senior Legal Counsel at Orion Health, you will be responsible for using commercially focused judgement and quick thinking to provide clear, high-quality legal advice and negotiation support to internal stakeholders on digital services contracts with customers and suppliers.

Orion Health is a global business, so you will be exposed to managing legal work in New Zealand and overseas jurisdictions. You will support the General Counsel and engage directly with internal and external stakeholders to support the business's needs and provide general legal guidance.

Your success in this role will be underpinned by the sound relationships you develop with the teams you work with and our external clients. Our team is very focused on being an integral part of the effort to support our strategic initiatives, whilst managing the risks for the best possible outcomes.

As Orion Health Senior Legal Counsel, you will:

  • Provide strategic advice on deal structures, commercial arrangements and risk management;
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on technology, licensing and services agreements, from subcontracts through to priming arrangements;
  • Manage all corporate governance and company secretarial compliance obligations;
  • Advise on commercial, corporate, property, employment and other legal matters as they arise, including dispute resolution issues.

What will you bring to the role?

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years PQE in-house or in private legal practice.
  • Skills: You possess well-developed research skills with the ability to draft agreements, demonstrate sound knowledge of NZ contract and commercial law and ideally have experience in negotiating and drafting ICT contracts. You also have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to logically present an argument for why/why not, every time.
  • Characteristics: You have a good sense of humour, are resilient and optimistic, un-phased by ambiguity and you enjoy working at pace on a variety of matters. You are also proactive in nature, jumping at the next task without hesitation.
  • Education: You will have a law degree, admission to the bar, and either hold an NZ practising certificate or be able to obtain one soon after commencing in the role.

We offer our Orionites the chance to take additional paid time off for those impossible-to-miss events with LeavePlus (eligibility rules apply).
  • Our relaxed, open-plan offices have a vibrant, energetic atmosphere with awesome added amenities; pool table, foosball, table tennis, arcade games!
  • Flexibility is important. We offer hybrid working arrangements and encourage our teams to design a workday that suits their team, and the wider business.
