Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Shift Supervisor to assist Management to oversee the daily operations of our café, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient workflow, and a high-quality food and beverage experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing staff, maintaining operational efficiency, handling financial aspects, and driving business growth while upholding hygiene and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise the daily operations of the café to ensure smooth and efficient service.
- Monitor food and beverage quality, presentation, and consistency to maintain high standards.
- Develop and implement café policies and procedures to optimize efficiency and compliance.
- Ensure that the café meets all health, safety, and hygiene standards, including food safety regulations.
- Manage stock levels, place orders for supplies, and ensure cost-effective inventory management.
- Address operational challenges proactively and ensure minimal downtime.
2. Staff Management & Leadership:
- Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate café staff to deliver excellent customer service.
- Schedule and assign duties to staff, ensuring optimal workforce allocation.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement staff development programs.
- Foster a positive and professional work environment that encourages teamwork and staff retention.
- Ensure compliance with workplace regulations, including fair work practices.
3. Customer Service & Experience:
- Maintain a high standard of customer service, ensuring a welcoming and positive café environment.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback in a professional and timely manner.
- Implement strategies to improve customer satisfaction and encourage repeat business.
- Ensure prompt and efficient service delivery while managing peak hours effectively.
4. Financial & Business Performance:
- Monitor and manage café financial performance, including sales, expenses, and profitability.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including sales trends, revenue, and cost control measures.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase revenue, including promotions, special events, and menu enhancements.
- Ensure accurate cash handling, reconciliation, and adherence to financial policies.
5. Marketing & Business Development:
- Develop and execute marketing initiatives to attract new customers and retain existing ones.
- Collaborate with the team to create and promote new menu items and seasonal offerings.
- Engage with local community events, businesses, and social media platforms to enhance brand visibility.
- Implement loyalty programs, promotions, and special events to drive foot traffic and increase sales.
6. Compliance & Workplace Safety:
- Ensure compliance with food safety, health, and hygiene regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food industry trends and legal requirements.
- Ensure all staff are trained in safety protocols, emergency procedures, and responsible service of alcohol (if applicable).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
§ Revenue & Profitability: Achieve or exceed monthly sales targets and maintain profitability within budgeted margins.
§ Customer Satisfaction: Maintain a customer satisfaction rating of at least 90%, measured through feedback and reviews.
§ Staff Performance: Ensure high employee engagement and retention, minimizing staff turnover.
§ Operational Efficiency: Ensure smooth service operations with minimal delays and customer complaints.
§ Cost Control: Maintain food and beverage costs within the allocated budget and minimize wastage.
§ Hygiene & Safety Compliance: Pass all health and safety inspections with full regulatory compliance.
§ Marketing Effectiveness: Drive increased customer footfall through successful promotions, social media engagement, and loyalty programs.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Hospitality, Business Management, or a related field (preferred) OR a minimum of 3 years of experience in a managerial/supervisory role within the café, restaurant, or hospitality industry.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, reporting, and cost control.
- Knowledge of food and beverage industry trends and best practices.
- Ability to multitask and handle a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory management software.
