About us
Te Tari Pūreke is Aotearoa New Zealand’s Firearms Regulator. Our Vision is to ensure the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world.
To achieve this, Te Tari Pūreke delivers four core functions: effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe possession and use of legitimate firearms.
We are committed to fostering a culture of safe and responsible firearms use, gun ownership and awareness by working collaboratively with the firearms community, our stakeholders, and fellow agencies.
About the Arms Transformation Programme
The ATP plays an important role in transforming the way firearms and licence holders are regulated in NZ. We started the programme following the 15 March 2019 Christchurch Masjidain attack that tragically killed 51 people in NZ.
Since then, we’ve been setting ourselves up for success to achieve our vision - that the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world.
As we look ahead to new challenges based around the emerging priorities from government and expectations from our investors (senior leaders and Ministers) we are resetting the team for future delivery.
About the role
The Senior Business Architect and Technical Lead bridges the gap between business strategy and IT implementation, assisting in designing and aligning business processes, organisational structures, and technologies to ensure that business objectives can be met efficiently.
To be successful you will bring extensive experience in both business architecture disciplines but also in the leadership of product and service development, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
We’re keen if you have a unique mix of technical abilities and (importantly) advanced relational and communication skills so that solutions are explained, and ideas are comprehended by others, thus guiding, and building trust with our key stakeholders as they navigate the transformation journey.
Critical to this role is effective leadership. We want someone who can think strategically, provide clear direction and who can get the most out of their ‘virtual’ team, so everyone has the support, skills and tools and confidence to do their best work, every day.
Key Deliverables:
Provide overall direction, guidance, and definition of business architecture to support business strategy and goals, ensuring alignment with NZ Police enterprise architecture standards and leveraging common solutions and services.
Create business architecture models to illustrate how products, operations, and systems interoperate within the business.
Conduct analysis to determine the best path for solving business problems/opportunities, including process improvement, systems enhancement, user training, and/or software procurement.
Provide business and technical architectural oversight of projects, ensuring requirements align with strategies and the business architecture roadmap/framework.
Identify and document capability and initiative needs and prioritise them into business architecture deliverables (e.g., roadmaps).
Ensure compliance with all architecture standards at various stages of the application lifecycle.
Support the Director – Business Transformation and Senior Programme Manager (ATP) in communicating and upholding the product and service vision, ensuring alignment with the overall transformation and digital strategy.
Develop cost models and business cases for new products and services and track key performance indicators to measure success and advise on improvements.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders and senior leaders on all aspects of product development.
Special requirements
At least 7 years’ experience in an Architecture role with at least 3 years’ experience at senior architecture / strategy level
Extensive and demonstrable experience in the production of executive level documentation (decision briefs, technology roadmap, architecture plans) and strategic advice to executive and senior leaders to deliver to a complex and ambiguous change agenda.
Confidence in engaging with stakeholders at all levels (including very senior people) with a natural ability to pivot in the moment to ensure communications land well with the audience.
Honed skills in interpreting business goals and drivers; translating business strategy and objectives into an “operating model”; and the strategic assessment of current capabilities; changes in capabilities; and the description of inter-relationships between people, organisation, service, process, data, information, technology, and the external environment.
Extensive and demonstrable experience in the production of architectural strategies and standards that provide business solutions using the resources/toolkit available.
This role is set at Strategic Leader level which means your key purpose is “to lead the strategy, Our Business, and enable our people to deliver it”.
