This role will be hybrid onsite , 4 days per week in our Auckland office.
This role will be supporting the full range of IDEXX Veterinary Software products, including our practice management software's , and pet owner engagement platforms. We’re building the worlds first saas vertical for veterinary health, so we need an experienced architect to help align our products into our veterinary software ecosystem.
However the first project this role will be focused on is helping to leave the redevelopment of a platform used by 150k+ users worldwide, powering over 50k appointments daily. Your work will directly enhance the customer experience and enable our dev teams to move faster and work more independently. As we scale to support enterprise-level customers, smart architecture will be key to staying fast, flexible, and ready for what’s next.
This role will spend it’s time 50% hands on with the tools coding – we're looking for a developer at heart! And 50% collaborating with our development teams , gathering requirements, understanding workflows to find the best p ath forward.

A bit more about the role, you will:
Work with product teams to determine the technical requirements for features on the application roadmap
Develop and maintain the north star for the teams roadmap
Build proof of concepts, and early access features in conjunction with the team
Provide design recommendations based on long-term organisation strategy
Align architecture with overall Company application architecture standards to ensure smooth and efficient operation
Determine specifications and plans, designs and develop application solutions, utilising appropriate software processes
Create architecture and development standards
Participate in development of new product requirements, features and design
Researches and maintains knowledge in emerging technologies and possible applications to the business
Act as internal consultant, advocate, mentor and change agent.
Production of documentation to assist in planning for the future of the product
Documenting architectural decisions (reasoning).
What you’ll need:
Seasoned software engineering expertise in a modern software language. We use PHP, Go- Lang and Typescript.
Experience working with deconstructing and re-architecting a monolithic architecture – y i p, we are changing the engine of our p lane while it is flyi ng ...
AWS experience is a must !
Experience partnering with larger engineering teams – we have 2-3 development teams this role will be working with .
Experience with database structures and designing high performance databases .
E xperience with e vent streaming with K afka .
Sound understanding of business requirements and translating these into conceptual, logical, and physical models .
Genuine collaboration, capable of strategising an approach to a problem that inspires/influences others to buy-in .
Highly effective technical coach and mentor for engineering teams .
Familiarity with multiple web and cloud technologies and an unbiased approach to technology selection
