About the Role

We are recruiting for two full time Social Work positions within the hospital – General Medicine and Neurosurgery. You will be an experienced Social Worker who has previously worked within a hospital environment.

The role in General Medicine is fast paced and is a challenging speciality. You will be sensitively assessing a broad range of complex social situations and working with the wider MDT to facilitate safe discharge. You will regularly be supporting whānau to apply to the Family Court where capacity is a concern. Therefore, an understanding of The Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act is desirable.

Working in Neurosurgery will require you to utilise your trauma informed skills to ensure that patients and their whānau receive the psychological, emotional and practical supports while coming to terms with an often life changing diagnosis.

Both of these roles will focus on:

  • Providing comprehensive assessment and outcome focused innovative care, applying evidence-based practice, interventions and education.
  • Work collaboratively alongside medical, nursing & allied health colleagues. Valuing relationships and maintaining strong networks with all stakeholders
  • Once you have completed a thorough orientation to your new role and become familiar with it, you will join the after-hours, on-site and on-call rosters. Substantial training and support specific to after-hours work will be provided to the successful candidate.

About you

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification with full registration with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Able to navigate complex dynamics as you hold the needs and best interests of the patient and whānau in view.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a bicultural hospital environment.
