As the Strategic Planning Manager, you will be responsible for planning and implementing strategic plans, programs, projects, and initiatives to help Council achieve its organisational objectives.

This role gives you the chance to support and influence company-wide strategy, and the responsibility to lead projects that will shape the future of Council.


Your Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and delivery of Council's Long-Term Plan (LTP) and strategic environmental assessments
  • Managing the development of non-financial sections of the LTP and select Council strategies, plans, policies and reports
  • Overseeing Council's consultation processes for strategic planning documents
  • Monitoring external trends, legislation, and funding opportunities that may impact the region's strategic direction
  • Facilitating strategic workshops and cross-departmental meetings
  • Managing consultants, contracts, and project budgets related to strategic planning initiatives
  • Overseeing delivery of Economic Development strategic objectives
  • Managing community consultation processes
  • Providing high-quality advice to Council, Committees, and Executive Management Team

Success in this role comes from your ability to think big-picture and strategically, while also being able to dive into the detail to build the procedures that drive execution. You'll bring strong project leadership across multiple workstreams, with the agility to formulate and analyse data as required.


We're looking for someone who has some or all of the following:

  • Sound knowledge of strategy formulation, data analysis and delivery within large, complex organisations
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with a knack for building structure and systems
  • A continuous improvement mindset and eagerness to learn
  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to align actions with business goals
  • Experience facilitating with senior managers and leaders skilled in interpreting complex data to drive actionable insights
