Are you looking for an opportunity to transform a waka and navigate it into a successful and sustainable future?
At Whakaata Māori, we embrace our role as a waka, driven by our passion to preserve and promote Māori stories, language, and culture. And right now, we are seeking an experienced Tumu Whakatere | Strategic Programme Manager to join us on this journey of transformational change.
Tumu Whakatere draws from the act of steering the waka — the one responsible for keeping kaupapa moving forward in line with strategy, ensuring progress through deliberate motion. In this role, you will lead the implementation of strategic initiatives across Whakaata Māori.
The Tumu Whakatere drives planning cycles, transformation programmes, and cross-Ranga priorities — ensuring outcomes are achieved, delivery remains focused, and strategic intent is converted into coordinated action.
You will be responsible for
- strategic planning and delivery,
- transformation and strategic programme leadership,
- project leadership, and
- contract management.
You will also work collaboratively with other leaders and stakeholders, ensuring collaboration across strategic planning and initiatives to ensure our waka remains aligned, connected, and purposeful as we move towards the future.
The successful candidate will have proven ability to lead complex delivery in a cross-functional environment with strong planning, tracking, and stakeholder coordination. You will also be adaptable and solution-focused under pressure and confident communicating complex matters and issues. A strong command of te reo me ngā tikanga Māori in formal and everyday contexts along with experience in kaupapa Māori delivery environments and tikanga-based engagement is important.
This is a 12-month fixed term role, and it may evolve as Whakaata Māori progresses its organisational realignment and delivery transformation.
Join us and become a part of the waka that carries Māori language, culture, and stories into the future.
Applications close 20 June 2025. However, applications will be reviewed and progressed as we receive them. If you're excited about this opportunity, please apply now.
