Job Description
Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Geology looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect internship opportunity for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.
This paid internship opportunity will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) and work as with our talented geology team, on-site at Macraes. Working a roster of 8 days on, 6 days off, 7:00am – 7:00pm daily.
What will you be doing?
- Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
- Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process
- Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements
Specific project work will involve:
This role will have you working amongst a crew, undertaking geological logging, sampling, and systematic resource definition drilling based at Macraes mine.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assist with day-to-day supervision of percussion and diamond drilling programmes, including site preparation, operations, geological logging and sampling
- Assist with the design, organise and implement diamond and RC percussion drilling programs
- Undertake geological logging, geochemical sampling, trenching and other fieldwork as required
- Monitor QA/QC of day-to-day drill samples and deliver quality samples to analytical lab
- Assist in the day-to-day reporting of field personnel and contractors

Qualifications
- Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)
- Available across Nov-February 2025/26
- In your 2nd last or final year of study in Geology (or similar)
- Have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru and surrounds, and happy to bus to site daily
- Curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for problem solving
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
