At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand's security and wellbeing. We provide Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security and resilience to organisations of national significance to successfully navigate in an unpredictable world.
Our Technology and Data Directorate (T&D) serves the GCSB, NZSIS and the wider NZIC. The Web and Digital Services Team within T&D manage an enterprise suite of content management and productivity applications for GCSB and the NZIC, including our intranets and external websites. These systems are an essential part of how the GCSB undertakes its mission to keep New Zealand safe.
The Role
As a Technical Specialist, you will provide expert assistance to create advanced solutions for business and technical teams. You will be engaging with all parts of the business to better understand requirements, and to ensure the solutions you create will make a meaningful difference to their efficiency & productivity, and deliver business insights to improve decision-making.
Day to day in this role might see you upgrading and improving the applications with new tools or features, or helping our community get the best out of the tools we offer by creating workflows, templates, spaces and macros, designing intranet toolkits, or setting up blogs, surveys and web forms.
This is a busy and varied role with a strong ethos of customer support and delivering pragmatic solutions. We're a small team with diverse skills and experience, but what makes the team tick is putting our collective skills and ideas together to solve customer problems.
What we are looking for
Your background may be as an established application specialist, or as an expert in web development or workflow design. We want to hear from you if you:
Have intermediate to senior level experience in application development / administration
Have experience with collaboration tools or content management systems as an administrator / super user
Enjoy helping others and have the desire to see them succeed
Have excellent communication skills
Have an ability to build strong relationships with, and get buy-in from, technical experts and business stakeholders
The role will require you to be confident in your ability to build tools and develop solutions to enhance functionality and/or improve user experience. Ideally, you will have some experience with content management, collaboration, tasking, and workflow products like WordPress, Jira & Confluence, and you will be familiar with some common web development tools and languages like JavaScript, JSON, PowerShell, HTML, CSS, and Rest APIs.

The expected appointing range for this position is between $103,009 - $109,876.

You must:
Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
