Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting three Web Content Writers on a fixed term, full-time basis to join the Future Web Programme (FWP) Team until January 2026. The University is undertaking an exciting project to migrate the subject and qualification content from a web application to the main web channel and apply a fresh design to its subjects and qualifications pages.
The Web Content Writer, (FWP) will provide expertise in the redevelopment of content for the subjects and qualifications sections of the website. This involves working with the (FWP) content team to audit existing subjects and qualifications content; develop new subjects and qualifications content in partnership with content owners; migrate existing content; build approximately 400 new web pages; help test the usability and accessibility of new content.
Key responsibilities:
- Partner with subject matter experts and content owners to develop subjects and qualifications content that is user-centred and delivers benefits to the business.
- Help develop and improve a quality assurance framework that determines how content will meet quality standards and how it will be signed off.
- Evaluate the usability and accessibility of new content to ensure it is compliant with Government web standards.
- Audit existing content to determine what is in scope.
- Participate in user-testing of new page content and design.
- Use the content management system to upload new content to the website.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
We are seeking an innovative, flexible, proactive and customer-focused individual with previous knowledge and experience as a web content writer in a tertiary education institute or other complex environment.
Key requirements:
- At least four years’ experience writing specifically for the web.
- Demonstrated experience in web best practises: web writing, content design, UX, IA, SEO, analytics, accessibility.
- Experience communicating effectively with stakeholders, including business users, content owners, and project managers.
- Ability to clearly explain web-centric concepts in a way that is easy to understand.
- Identify and resolve problems - should be able to think critically and come up with creative solutions.
- Experience in developing and conducting user research and user acceptance testing activities.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS).
