THE OPPORTUNITY: Our client has branches across Australia and New Zealand and a long tradition of providing successful services to the transport industry. You’ll utilise your great communication and technical skills to ensure the workshop meets repair deadlines, provides quality workmanship and a stellar service to customers. You will become an integral part of the Christchurch operation.
THE ROLE: As Workshop Manager, you will be confident providing effective leadership of your team and ensuring efficient workflow. You will enjoy working on multiple projects at once and with section leaders to support their deadlines and goals. The workshop is responsible for the repair of diesel-powered heavy vehicles (typically large road trucks and trailers) following traffic accident damage, and your team of 35 will include heavy diesel mechanics, auto electricians, panel beaters and spray painters. Our client has an exciting and wide range of customers with some impressive trucks to work on. Your duties will include the following and more:
- Tracking each job’s progress and requirements including repair or replacement of parts, and resolving problems encountered.
- Decision making on how each job is to be handled (considering insurance issues, cost savings, alternatives, time frames, nature of customer, quality and more).
- Reviewing quotes with estimator and section supervisors.
- Providing written requirements for each job to section leaders.
- Overall responsibility for delivery of repaired vehicles and equipment, advising all stakeholders when schedule changes are necessary.
- Responsibility for managing all workers in the workshop and yard, including contractors.
- Recognising positive workmanship, coaching, mentoring if poor workmanship and efficiency to improve your team's performance.
- Involvement in hiring, staff management and training, performance reviews.
- Lead and manage WH&S, provide training, ensure all protocols adhered to by all staff.
- Run a team-centred environment by training, delegating, supervising and communicating requirements.
ABOUT YOU
- Previous staff management experience in a busy collision repair workshop essential.
- Extensive experience in heavy vehicle repair including rebuilding.
- Possess a relevant trade qualification.
- Experienced and confident with metrics and IT systems for workshop management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deal with a range of situations.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills including reporting and correspondence.
- Project planning ability, effective time management, deadline focused.
- Attention to detail to ensure delivery of high-quality work across all sections.
- A continuous improvement approach, willingness to learn, cooperative and respectful leadership style, previous coaching experience.
- Excellent understanding of all Health and Safety procedures and ability to oversee compliance.
