Tenei turanga - About the Role:

The Kiritaki Centricity and Service Design team facilitates, supports, and guides teams across MBIE on how they can take a more customer centric approach to their mahi. We operate as an MBIE-wide function, providing support across the entire agency. For some business groups, we are deeply embedded in their work programmes, and for other business groups, we operate like a consultancy. Designed as a centre of experience, we provide capability, capacity, and collaboration to build customer centric capability.


We're looking for someone who's a strategic thinker and a skilled collaborator, passionate about designing services that truly meet the needs of users. This person will be great at turning insights and data into innovative, practical solutions, and will work closely with stakeholders across the Ministry, industry, and the wider public sector to ensure those solutions are well-informed and effective. They'll be confident managing projects and relationships, contributing to a shared vision, and helping teams navigate complex challenges. Ultimately, we want someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, brings others along in the design process, and helps deliver meaningful, sustainable change.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous and flexible environment, working from a human-centered perspective.
  • Ability to interpret insights to influence customer outcomes.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and drive for outcomes in a changeable environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to express ideas clearly (i.e. written, visual, oral).
  • Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork and relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of the public sector in Aotearoa.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a wide range of different people (including in person and using online collaborative platforms).
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is preferred, but not essential.
  • Must be a NZ citizen or hold a residence class visa
