Whakatairangatia nga kete o te matauranga ki te ao marama! E te tai whakarunga, e te tai whakararo - nau piki mai, nau kake mai ki te Mana Tohu Matauranga o Aotearoa.

May the baskets of knowledge (education) be brought into the world of light. We welcome one and all to join us at the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

Mo tenei turanga | About the role

We are searching for Exam Centre Managers to support an allocated Exam Centre within their region. Each Exam Centre is assigned an individual Exam Centre Manager.

Each year, NZQA works closely with schools across Aotearoa to successfully deliver NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship examinations and provide a learner-centric and positive exam experience for akonga.

Our NZQA Exam Centre Managers (ECMs) play a key role in helping us to deliver this service successfully. Our ECMs lead and manage both on and off-site responsibilities for a dedicated exam centre to ensure that all processes related to the delivery of these examinations are compliant with NZQA procedures and policies.

As an ECM, you'll work closely with our NZQA Assessment Delivery team to plan for, manage and deliver a smooth, well-organised and successful examination experience. To help you do this, we provide a comprehensive training programme for ECMs. This training programme ensures you are prepared and supported with the knowledge, context, equipment and technology you will need to do your work. In addition to this, our team at NZQA are on-call for you throughout your employment to help you solve issues, raise challenges and brainstorm solutions.

In addition to your relationship with NZQA, you will also build a productive and professional relationship with the Principal's Nominee (PN) for the Exam Centre you are managing. The PN will be your primary `on the ground' contact who will provide you with the school specific information, knowledge and insight you will need for your role. You will draw on their guidance to prepare examination rooms, confirm accommodation and equipment needs for students and provide surety to both the school and NZQA that exams are being delivered appropriately.

As part of the ECM role, you could expect to:

  • Assemble a team of suitable exam supervisors and deliver training (prepared by NZQA) so they are well-prepared to help you carry out your duties
  • Create a work schedule your team members for exam supervision sessions in our NZQA planning system
  • Use the digital examination monitoring tool to oversee digital assessments
  • Ensure that approved special assessment conditions are provided for eligible candidates
  • Work with the school to prepare examination rooms, including digital exam setup
  • Ensure the security, receipt and storage of all examination materials, including late entries
  • Support your team to submit their timesheets to NZQA and verify their timesheets to ensure timely payment processing

Please review our job description for a more detailed description of the responsibilities of an ECM, as well as a breakdown of the pay schedule.

You must be available to commence in the ECM role immediately.

Note: between July and mid-October, you can expect to work approximately 10-15 hours per week (inclusive of your training). From mid-October to mid-December, this will increase to approximately 40 hours per week, dependent on the size of the school you are supporting.

Ko tau na i tenei turanga | What you will bring to the role:

  • High level of digital literacy and willingness to navigate and engage with online-based systems and support models
  • Reliable access to the internet, a smart phone, laptop, or tablet
  • Strong organisational skills to support effective management and supervision of examinations in line with the approved NZQA processes and policies
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt and shape communication style to suit different audiences, as required
  • Proven experience in assessing potential hires against key selection criteria and making robust hiring decisions that reflect the key selection criteria
  • Demonstrated understanding of Adult Teaching principals and, ideally, experience delivering online or face-to-face skills training
  • Commitment to upholding the NZQA code of conduct and acting in a way that is fair, equitable and promotes a positive experience for learners
  • Strong demonstrated ability to:
    • Effectively manage both self and teams to balance multiple priorities and meet inflexible deadlines
    • Identify risks, propose mitigations, and escalate as required
    • Lead teams and work in a way that ensures the role is carried out in safe and responsible manner that does not compromise the health and safety of self or others in the workplace
    • Act in accordance with privacy and security policies and procedures when managing both digital and paper-based information
