About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga

We're looking for an Analyst to join our Nelson based Aquaculture and Fisheries Permitting Team within the Verification and Operations Directorate of Fisheries New Zealand.

Our team works with a diverse range of stakeholders and technical experts to develop, deliver and manage applications, along with supporting processes, across a range of regulatory tools in the marine and freshwater space. As an Analyst your role will largely focus on drafting advice papers and other documents for applications for various:

  • Fisheries regulations and approvals, including special permits, digital monitoring exemptions, and aquatic life transfers
  • Marine and land-based aquaculture regulations and approvals

About You - Mou

We are interested in someone who has knowledge of fisheries and, aquaculture legislation and issues in New Zealand. If you have career experience working in other regulatory systems and can learn and apply legislation in an operational context, we encourage you to apply.

You'll have a positive can-do attitude, be able to work effectively within a team as well as independently, be self-motivated and able to exercise good judgment.

You will ideally have:

  • a qualification in marine science, resource management or a related discipline
  • excellent attention to detail and a track record of achieving results
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • excellent writing skills and experience in providing advice to decision makers

About the Team - Mo to matou ropu

Aquaculture and Fisheries Permitting are a team of eight people, and we're currently spread across Nelson, Wellington, and New Plymouth. We have responsibility for our own work assignments, and we support and collaborate with each other as needed.
