Eurofins Food and Water Testing New Zealand provides range of class leading food, water, plant, soil and fertilizer testing, as well as horticultural services, auditing and technical solutions, primarily to the New Zealand market. Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented experienced Laboratory Technicians to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a range of analytical tests on various samples in our Penrose, Auckland Laboratory. This position requires a strong focus on accuracy, safety, and adherence to established protocols.
Key Responsibilities
As a Chemistry Laboratory Technician, your key responsibilities will include:
- Collecting information and samples for analysis.
- Conducting laboratory experiments, tests and analyses on organic and inorganic chemicals.
- Preparing and analysing samples using standard laboratory equipment and techniques.
- Performing routine testing on a range of raw materials and finished products.
- Performing routine mathematical calculations and computations of measurements.
- Presenting results in graphic and written form by preparing maps, charts, sketches, diagrams and reports, and carrying out other technical functions.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all tests and results.
- Checking, calibrating, and maintaining test equipment and laboratory instruments.
- Controlling the quality and quantity of laboratory supplies by testing samples and monitoring usage.
- Ensuring the laboratory environment is clean, safe, and compliant with all health and safety regulations.
- Assisting in the development and validation of new testing methods.
- Communicating test results to the wider team and reporting any non-conformance issues promptly.
Qualifications
We have two positions available, each with specific requirements as follows:
Position 1 - Roster Tuesday - Saturday, 40 hours per week:
- Solid theoretical understanding and practical experience in testing fats by acid hydrolysis, crude fat and ammonia hydrolysis. Should be able to handle solvents and acids.
- Experience in titration methods using both traditional methods and auto titrators.
- Experience in testing free fats
- Experience in handling quarantine samples
- Certified handler certificate preferable.
Position 2 - Roster Tuesday - Saturday, 40 hours per week::
- Solid theoretical understanding and practical experience in testing protein using FOSS Kjeltec and Crude Fibre using ANKOM.
- Peroxide value, Free fatty acids and Anisidine value using titration and spectrophotometer methods.
- MBM testing methods- pepsin digestibility, TVBN
- Sensory testing
- Experience in handling quarantine samples
Minimum Requirements in addition to above:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as Chemistry, Food Science/Technology, or equivalent.
- At least two years' previous experience in a similar role in a food testing or commercial lab.
- Demonstrated experience with FOSS Kjeltec and ANKOM, experience doing testing samples for fats.
- LIMS (Laboratory Information System ) experience .
- Proven experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 environment.
- A strong understanding of laboratory safety procedures and quality assurance protocols.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and report-writing skills.
- Must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand at the time of application.
