Midwife Specialist – Perinatal loss
North Shore Hospital
Part time, 0.5 FTE ( 40 hours per fortnight)

Supporting families through perinatal loss requires a special kind of midwife, one with deep compassion, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to delivering respectful, holistic Te Tiriti ō Waitangi based care. If you have a passion for supporting whānau through the profound experience of losing a baby, this role may be the right fit for you.

In this role, your primary focus will be coordinating clinical care for the birthing person and whānau during their birth, and in the weeks that follow. Alongside this, you will also play a vital role in organisational, management, and educational responsibilities, including:

  • Acting as a single point of contact for the care and management of the Tūpāpaku and whenua, including coordination with histology (as consented) and return to the whānau.
  • Providing ongoing support and follow-up for whānau, including counselling coordination.
  • Serving as the liaison between Waitematā and the National Perinatal and Maternal Morbidity Review Committee (PMMRC).
  • Educating and supporting staff who work with whānau experiencing perinatal loss.

We are looking for a registered midwife with at least five years of post registration experience, including hands-on experience in perinatal loss care. Post-graduate study is preferred

You will be compassionate, flexible, and motivated, with a strong sense of cultural awareness and an understanding of how your own bias may impact care. You will also be a collaborative team player with a positive attitude and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that all legal, ethical, and cultural considerations are upheld.
