About the Role

The Senior Release Manager plays a vital role within the Digital Service team, responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing software releases to ensure seamless and efficient deployment. Working closely with Digital Applications & Products teams, the Manager DevOps, developers, and platform engineers, the role focuses on minimising risk and downtime during release cycles. Additionally, the Senior Release Manager drives continuous improvement by enhancing automation and refining release management practices to align closely with business objectives and operational requirements.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Senior Release Manager reports into the Manager DevOps, which sits within the Digital Applications & Products function. The focus of this function is on reducing duplication and improving alignment across application and product teams, with a strong emphasis on maintaining stability, security, and reliability.

Teams are structured around the applications and products they support, enabling standardised processes and nationally consistent outcomes. Organised into service portfolios and domains, this structure ensures delivery is aligned to clinical and operational needs while advancing national standardisation efforts.

About you

You are a seasoned digital leader with a strong technical foundation and a passion for driving system reliability and performance. You bring a strategic mindset, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to equity and innovation in healthcare. As a leader, you inspire cross-functional teams to adopt observability best practices and foster a culture of continuous improvement. You will also have the following skills and experience to support your success in the role:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of release management experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Proven track record in managing the release of complex software applications and systems.
  • Familiarity with release management methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall, and experience using tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, and Jenkins.
  • Experience working within large, complex organisations, with health sector experience highly desirable.
