Job Description

The Senior Specialist - Mining primarily responsible for overseeing safe and efficient mining practices and working with mining supervisors and other stakeholders to deliver the weekly mining schedule.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Operational:

  • Ensure the daily plans align with the objectives of the weekly mining schedule.
  • Monitor equipment statistics to ensure that key KPI’s are met;
  • Ensure ancillary activities planned are completed to enable long and short term mining plans are met
  • Ensure essential underground mining operations infrastructure is maintained through timely maintenance intervention and upgrades when required.
  • Review all mine designs to ensure that they are maximised for operational efficiency

Production:

  • Review production targets in conjunction with the Engineering team and Superintendent – Mining and coordinate the implementation of operational improvement plans ;
  • Ensure Production equipment is utilised in line with budgeted requirements

Safety

  • Establish and maintain the highest possible standards of housekeeping and cleanliness in individual work area and mine site in general
  • Ensure the use of, and educate miners around the of safety tools to ensure operational activities are done at an acceptable level of risk;
  • Review and update key parts of the Health and Safety Management system relating to underground activities.
  • Ensure all site rules are complied with through visual leadership and active management.

People Management:

  • Use performance management systems to improve individual performance to meet or exceeds acceptable standards;
  • Lead and develop mining supervisors to ensure cultural behaviours are inline with company values.
  • Ensure human and employment relations issues are handled in a timely and effective manner;
  • Fully investigate non-compliances to policies and standards and take action to ensure positive outcomes for the underground mine operations group.

Other:

  • Act as mining supervisor from time to time as required.
  • Carry out all other duties that may reasonably be required.

Qualifications
  • New Zealand A Grade Tunnel Managers’ Certificate of Competency (Or the ability to obtain)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current full Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years underground mining experience with exposure to mechanised development and production techniques
  • A proven track record of supervising and coordinating underground mining personnel and contractor activities
  • Extensive knowledge of the practices and techniques applied in underground mining.

Other Criteria:

  • Satisfactory results from the prescribed medical examination and physical appraisal which may indicate fitness and ability to carry out prescribed tasks to required performance and safety standards.
  • Production of a satisfactory security clearance.
