Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role
The Survey Coordinator / Data Analyst plays a vital role in enabling data-informed decision-making across Ara. Positioned within the Strategy, Planning and Performance Division, this role carries out the end-to-end delivery of survey initiatives, from scoping and design to analysis and reporting.
With expertise in survey methodology and statistical analysis, the Survey Coordinator / Data Analyst transforms complex data into clear, actionable insights that support strategic planning, policy development, and continuous improvement. The role involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure surveys are purposeful, inclusive, and ethically conducted.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing surveys that inform academic and organisational priorities.
- Managing data collection and ensuring confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Analysing both quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Communicating findings through reports, dashboards, and presentations.
- Enhancing internal survey processes and building organisational survey capability.
- This role contributes meaningfully to the development of a data-driven culture, helping shape the future of teaching, learning, staff engagement, and institutional performance.
Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, social sciences, data science, or education research
- Proven experience in survey design, data collection, and analysis
- Demonstrated experience in designing, conducting, and analysing surveys in a professional, research, or educational environment
- Sound knowledge of survey methodologies, including sampling techniques, survey design, and data collection practices
- Proven ability to analyse and interpret both quantitative and qualitative data
- Proficiency in using data analysis and visualisation tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, Python, or Power BI
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly to varied audiences
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy, integrity, and quality
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- To listen well, to be supportive and provide feedback where necessary.
- An ability to respond appropriately to different situations, people and ideas.
- Willingness to share knowledge and best practice
- The ability to work without supervision and with initiative
- High level of competence using software, including survey software
- Business reporting; report writing or development of online reporting
