Salary band & range: General Salary Range F: $76,463 to $89,215 depending on skills and experience

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) are currently recruiting for two Analyst - Operations positions to join our Forestry Operations directorate as part of our wider Te Uru Rakau - New Zealand Forest Service business unit, based in Wellington.

About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga

You'll be part of a large, driver team that is responsible for regulating the forestry elements of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) for New Zealand, helping Aotearoa meet its Climate Change obligations while also supporting the primary sector.

The core responsibilities for the role are:

  • Liaising directly with forestry consultants, foresters, farmers and other industry bodies.
  • Processing applications to register forest land into the ETS for forestry, emissions returns and other key application types.
  • Data gathering, analysis, reporting, and collaboration.
  • Providing advice to the Minister for Forestry.
  • Respond to Official Information Act requests.
  • Building process documents and feeding into Operational Policy development.

We will help you grow to become a technical specialist in the ETS for forestry.

About You - Mou

This role could create a great career pathway, providing the opportunity for movement within an exciting team and branch. These positions will best suit proactive and motivated applicants with good analytical skills & sound judgement who have an interest in the ETS.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Strong skills in analysing and problem solving.
  • An enquiring mind and a strong voice to challenge things.
  • Ability to learn and apply legislation in an operational context.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and work in a collaborative manner to succeed.
  • An understanding of the public sector and the government, including interaction with decision makers and stakeholders would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the forestry aspects of the ETS and carbon accounting is valuable but not essential.

This team is responsible for regulating the Forestry Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) for New Zealand, helping Aotearoa meet its Climate Change obligations and driving toward a low emissions economy.
