Ko Taku Reo is seeking a visionary and experienced leader to join our Education Services Team as Head of Regional Outreach Services. This pivotal role provides strategic direction and operational leadership for our Outreach and NZSL Services Teams, ensuring Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) learners across Aotearoa have equitable access to high-quality education, language and wellbeing support.

THE ROLE / TE MAHI

You will lead a nationally dispersed team, embedding consistent systems and culturally responsive practices that reflect Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Your work will align with the Ko Taku Reo Strategic Plan and national priorities, driving initiatives that improve learner outcomes, language acquisition and community engagement. This role can be based in either Auckland or Christchurch.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading best practice implementation for direct and indirect service delivery
  • Overseeing NZSL programme development and integration
  • Monitoring learner achievement and service impact
  • Strengthening whānau and community partnerships
  • Driving professional learning and development for Outreach staff
  • Ensuring compliance with legislative and contractual obligations

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION / NGĀ HERENGA MŌ TE MAHI

  • A teaching or education degree and full NZ teacher registration
  • 10+ years teaching experience, including 5+ years in leadership
  • Extensive experience leading large teams (100+)
  • Proven experience in DHH or specialist education
  • Strong data analysis and strategic planning skills
  • Conversational NZSL (advanced preferred)
  • A full NZ driver’s license
