About the role - Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga
In 2025, the University of Waikato is launching Te Ara Tatauranga – The Statistical Consulting Group, a new initiative to support research and external partnerships through expert statistical advice. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute at the forefront of academic research and applied data analytics.
As a Statistical Consultant, you will work closely with postgraduate students, academic researchers, and external partners to deliver high-quality statistical insights and advice, often as part of funded projects. Alongside consulting, you will lecture in the University’s data analytics programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
This role is ideal for a statistical professional with a passion for research impact, client collaboration, and teaching excellence.
Salary will be in the range of $90,125 to $107,452 per year pro rata, depending on the skills, knowledge and experience you bring to the role. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), offered fixed term for two-years as the position is funded by external research grants. The role will be based at our Hillcrest Campus in Hamilton.

Who are you? - Ko wai koe?
You will hold a Master’s degree or PhD in Applied Statistics or a closely related field, and bring experience in teaching data analytics or statistics at tertiary level. You’ll have strong statistical knowledge, effective programming skills across statistical packages, and a clear, confident approach to communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences.
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, collaborative, and committed to supporting both academic and applied research. Preference may be given to candidates with a PhD and experience in cross-disciplinary research or biostatistics.

This position will join the Data Analytics programme which is part of Au Reikura – The School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Waikato. Au Reikura comprises of a number of Academic Programmes including, Mathematics, Statistics/Data Analytics, Computer Science, and Design.
