About the Role

The Programme Director (Digital Workspace) is responsible for leading the definition, planning and successful delivery of complex, interrelated projects within the Digital Workspace domain.. This role plays a key part in translating strategic priorities into action by aligning vision, resources, and execution to achieve programme outcomes that support Health New Zealand's goals. The position oversees the full programme lifecycle from initiation through to execution and benefit realisation, with a strong focus on performance, cost efficiency, and quality assurance. Working closely with technical teams, senior leaders, and stakeholders, the Programme Director ensures delivery is customer-focused, strategically aligned, and fit for purpose. A critical focus is on modernising digital workspaces by guiding the transition from legacy systems to modern digital solutions, while fostering continuous improvement, supporting equitable service delivery, and driving value through effective investment and delivery planning.

About the Team/Service/ Location

This Programme Director role sits within Infrastructure Delivery, a key part of the wider Digital Operations function under the Digital Services umbrella. Digital Operations is responsible for ensuring the effective everyday running of digital systems across public hospitals, with a strong focus on maintaining critical clinical systems and services. Within this context, the Digital Workspace team is dedicated to delivering a modern, human-centric digital environment that enhances the way employees work and collaborate. The team is focused on providing consistent, nationally standardised solutions tailored to various job personas, all accessible through the Digital Services IT product catalogue. Together, the team plays a crucial role in supporting Health New Zealand's strategic goals by enabling seamless, efficient, and equitable digital experiences for the health workforce.

About you

As an experienced programme leader, you will have experience in delivering large-scale, complex technology initiatives, with proven strengths in strategic leadership, and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the following skills and experience will contribute to your success in this role.

  • Experience developing deliverable plans from strategy.
  • Program management experience in delivering complex technology initiatives on time, within budget, and to desired quality standards.
  • Stakeholder management experience with the ability to effectively engage with senior executives, technical teams, and external stakeholders to drive program success.
  • Change management experience leading organisational change initiatives associated with technology implementations.
