Job Description
Are you an experienced laboratory analyst looking to take the next step to be a Key Technical Person (KTP) responsible for ensuring test results meet our high quality standards and are suitable to be reported to customers? If so, then this role of Scientific Analyst is for you.
Our team at Specialty Testing undertake sophisticated analysis of veterinary medicines, pesticides, and environmental contaminants in a wide variety of food and environmental samples. We currently have one vacancy for a Scientific Analyst to join our Science and Innovation Team. This role is full-time, permanent, working Tuesday – Saturday at the Wellington Laboratory.
As a Scientific Analyst in the team, you will be providing top quality analytical results to our customers by building on your experience as a senior laboratory analyst. This opportunity will require the successful applicant to quickly build experience across all 3 disciplines: environmental contaminants, pesticide residues and veterinary medicine residues. Our tests are diverse and can be complex and data-intensive, so strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills along with the ability to process and distil large volumes of data into useful information are essential skills for these roles. You will also be very comfortable with chromatographic data processing software and Excel spreadsheets for handling large data sets. Experience operating both GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS instruments will be an advantage.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related science with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a commercial analytical chemistry laboratory OR Diploma in Laboratory Science with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a commercial analytical chemistry laboratory.
Additional Information
Factors for success in this position include:
- Proven success in processing, interpreting and critically assessing chromatographic data.
- Experience in daily operations of one or more GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, HPLC-UV or LC-MS/MS for quantitative analysis of small molecules.
- The ability to efficiently coordinate tasks and deliver work with a high degree of rigor and accuracy.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong drive for results.
- Previous KTP experience is a definite advantage.
