He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Parks & Community Facilities is a department within the Community Directorate, and has the privilege and commitment to ensure community assets are fit for purpose, delivering outstanding community experiences and outcomes for Aucklanders. As kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council facilities, we play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing of our communities while also delivering strategically significant programmes.

We’re looking for a Senior Business Analyst who can bring a strategic lens to complex operational and financial challenges. In this role, you’ll support key decision-making by modelling a range of business scenarios, analysing financial and service impacts, and helping shape proposals that drive performance and value. You’ll work closely with our Contracts, Assets, and Area Operations teams to assess how changes to delivery models, service levels, or contract structures affect the bottom line — and the frontline.

You’ll play an important role in developing robust financial models, preparing business cases, and evaluating improvement initiatives through a commercial lens. Whether it’s weighing up cost-benefit trade-offs, refining the accuracy of financial data, or crafting insightful reports and presentations, your work will help ensure decisions are evidence-based and transparent.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We’re looking for someone with an analytical mindset — who can break down complex problems, think critically about the options, and offer practical, value-focused solutions. You’ll be confident building robust financial models, performing scenario analysis, and assessing the real impact of changes to contracts, service levels, or delivery approaches. A strong grasp of business drivers and commercial levers means you’ll be able to balance short-term outcomes with long-term value, helping shape decisions that make a measurable difference.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a high level of accuracy in everything you do. You’ll be just as strong with people as you are with numbers — able to work collaboratively across teams, gather and test assumptions, and communicate findings clearly and confidently. Whether it’s through a well-crafted report or a compelling presentation, you’ll know how to translate detailed analysis into insights that stakeholders can act on. If you have advanced Excel skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for making data meaningful, this could be your next opportunity.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

You’ll be joining a team of diverse dedicated and respected experts working collaboratively across the region, who are passionate about delivering tangible results for the community and future generations.

We have a culture built on trust and valuing individual as well as collective contributions. Working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, you will have some flexibility with how those hours are set.

In return for your hard work, you can expect a flexible and supportive work environment. Ehara taku toa, he takitahi, he toa takitini My success is not mine alone, but the success of many.

Apply today (telling us why you are interested in and right for this opportunity) by cover letter along with your CV.
