Our client, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, are looking for an experienced and detail-driven Senior Payroll Officer to join their Finance Team. This a full-time fixed term opportunity (up to August 2026).
As the Senior Payroll Officer, you will lead the payroll function, ensuring the accurate, timely and efficient payment of wages, while maintaining full compliance with payroll regulations and New Zealand employment legislation. This pivotal role is responsible for payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and reporting. You will collaborate across teams to maintain data integrity, support system enhancements, and provide payroll insights. You will be a seasoned payroll professional with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement. You will thrive in collaborative environments, bring strong judgement and integrity to everything you do, and stay ahead of legislative changes to support best-practice payroll delivery. You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and technical skills, enabling you to provide trusted advice across the organisation with a strong commitment to service.
You will also have:
- A tertiary qualification in payroll, finance, mathematics or management or equivalent relevant experience
- 5+ years of demonstrated payroll experience in a similar capacity
- Proven experience processing payroll in a high-volume and complex environment
- Working knowledge of NZ payroll legislation, regulations and compliance requirements related to payroll
- Valid driver’s licence
