About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for technical practitioners to join the Intelligence Directorate.
You will be part of a team that directly supports and drives the Intelligence Directorate missions. You will work with unique datasets, develop new tools, drive analytical capabilities, and overcome technical challenges. The team provides ongoing capability development and analytic support while quickly pivoting to meet operational demands. You will be directly contributing to the security of New Zealand while pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
The team has a broad range of skills to support the diverse requirements of the intelligence mission. Typical work could include:
- Performing, and then automating, complex analysis across a wide range of datasets
- Developing custom solutions to progress data analysis and data engineering
- Leveraging your telecommunications and infrastructure expertise to drive capability development
- Gleaning insights from our disparate data sets: identifying trends, changes, and summarising current information
- Maintaining, progressing, and supporting systems that enable data analytics, data flow, and data insights
About you
Our ideal candidate will be excited by the diversity of the role; you will have strong technical skills, but have the initiative to mix-and-match solutions to different types of problems. You will bring a flair for creativity and innovation to our intelligence missions and deliver results through technical solutions. You will enjoy the challenge of navigating the problem space work to identify novel solutions.
Relevant experience would include strong practical problem-solving skills, complex analysis skills, software engineering, system administration, data science, data engineering, telecommunications knowledge, or ad-hoc scripting.

- Friday 17th October
- Monday 20th October
- Wednesday 22nd October
Successful candidates will be required to start their careers with us in Wellington, but with the potential opportunity to relocate to Auckland in the future.

- There will be two cohorts. Successful applicants will start with us either in early 2026 or mid 2026
- All of our staff are required to have high-level security clearance to do the job. There is a rigorous vetting process to allow us to make a risk-based decision on your suitability to work in a Top Secret environment. - Level 1: $73,684 - $78,596
- Level 2: $103,009 - $109,876
- Level 3: $120,359 - $128,383

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
- OR
- Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
