Your Role
We're seeking a strategic, hands-on Digital Marketing Specialist to lead our digital performance marketing, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships. You'll take full ownership of high-impact marketing initiatives, from design through to execution and optimisation, ensuring they meet business goals and deliver measurable outcomes.
This role requires advanced skills in campaign execution and cross-functional collaboration. You will set a high standard for performance marketing, leveraging tools and innovation to scale impact.

Key Responsibilities
Performance Marketing Leadership: Lead the design, execution, and optimisation of paid media campaigns across Google Ads, YouTube, Bing, Capterra, and more. Ensure campaigns align with business goals, deliver results, and evolve with learnings.
Digital Advertising Strategy: Drive paid social campaigns (LinkedIn, Reddit, Facebook) to increase lead generation, customer acquisition, and engagement across global markets.
Innovative Growth Initiatives: Develop and scale data-driven growth marketing strategies. Use experimentation, funnel optimisation, and conversion-focused tactics to improve performance.
Sponsorships & Strategic Partnerships: Proactively identify, evaluate, and lead marketing partnership and sponsorship initiatives with industry leaders and media channels to extend our reach and brand credibility.
Analytics & Business Impact: Define and measure key performance metrics. Use analytics to report, refine, and ensure marketing programs are contributing meaningfully to business outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, sales, and customer success teams to align marketing efforts across launches and initiatives.
Process & Campaign Innovation: Lead continuous improvement initiatives across marketing programs to enhance impact, efficiency, and quality.
Mentorship & Collaboration: Foster knowledge-sharing within the team. Help elevate the overall team's execution and creativity.
What You Bring
- Comprehensive hands-on experience in digital performance marketing (PPC, paid social, programmatic), ideally within B2B, SaaS, or tech sectors
- Proven ability to manage complex marketing campaigns with multiple channels, budgets, and KPIs
- Strategic thinking paired with technical proficiency in tools like Google Ads, Looker Studio, UTM tracking, attribution modelling, and A/B testing
- Track record of driving business impact through well-crafted campaign initiatives
- Ability to anticipate partner/customer needs and translate those into impactful marketing actions

First 30 Days
- Complete onboarding and orientation, including introductions to team members across Comet and WebPros
- Gain access to and become familiar with all relevant marketing platforms, tools, and systems
- Develop a foundational understanding of Comet's marketing channels, activities, and strategy
- Participate in product overview sessions led by the Customer Success team
- Begin initial involvement in managing and optimising Google Ads campaigns
- Deepen knowledge of the IT industry, including Comet's target customers and key competitors
- Take ownership of Google Ads and Capterra PPC performance and execution
- Support efforts to align Comet's digital presence across platforms
- Begin evaluating additional paid channels for potential expansion
- Meet key external marketing stakeholders, including industry groups and influencers
- Start leading the execution of Comet's paid digital strategy and performance marketing initiatives, in close collaboration with the internal marketing team
- Manage external marketing partnerships to ensure full value is being realised from existing contracts
- Contribute to campaign planning, execution, and performance analysis
- Fully own the execution of paid digital campaigns and performance marketing, with support from the marketing team on product and industry-specific messaging
- Transition into the primary point of contact for all paid sponsorships and partnerships, including industry associations, podcasts, and advertising partners
- Lead all aspects of Comet's paid advertising, sponsorship, and partnership strategy
- Provide strategic recommendations to the Marketing Manager on the renewal, optimisation, or replacement of existing sponsorship contracts
- Identify, evaluate, and present new partnership and sponsorship opportunities that align with broader marketing goals
- A growth mindset with the ability to lead and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive, self-driven attitude and strong project management and interpersonal skills to lead partnerships and align stakeholders
- Collaborative team player spirit with an appetite to share knowledge and contribute to a supportive culture

- Proactive approach in creating structure where none currently exists, building out foundational strategies, workflows, and processes from the ground up
- Prefer highly structured roles with rigid processes and find it challenging to navigate ambiguity or adapt to changing priorities.
- Require constant guidance or prefer working strongly autonomously with no team collaboration.
Team & Collaboration: Hybrid (2 days in office, 3 WFH) team based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Team Structure: You'll join Comet Backup's Marketing team (currently a team of two people)
Meetings/Communication: Mix of in-person collaboration, slack/email/video calls
Tooling & Stack: HubSpot, SalesForce, GA4, Looker Studio, WordPress, digital ad platforms (Google & YouTube ads, Reddit ads, LinkedIn ads, Meta ads, Capterra PPC, etc)
