Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Te Aukaha | Digital is delivering value through cross-functional squads that are responsible for the end-to-end ownership and delivery of a product, platform, or project, with Agile mindset and principles underpinning the ways we work.
You will bring your significant knowledge and experience across a range of delivery methodologies and apply a pragmatic approach to maturing our processes and uplifting capabilities with a focus on realising the benefits of our agile operating model.
Reporting to the Manager Digital Delivery, and working with our Digital Leadership Team, you will lead a small team of Agile Coaches leading initiatives targeted to maturing our ways of working and accelerating delivery. You will lead the evolution and delivery of our continuous planning cycle and the Big Room Planning (BRP) process, helping to build a strong partnership between Digital and the business, and clearly demonstrate the value of our agile operating model and ways of working.
You will drive the integration of Digital ways of working with other functions across the enterprise, such as governance, risk, assurance, reporting and insights, business planning, and large programmes. A key aspect to this is taking an enterprise lens and working closely with the EPMO to ensure clarity and alignment across the portfolios in these interactions.
This role requires significant influence, guidance and leadership to ensure Agile mindset is embedded successfully across Digital, and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $156,458 and $208,610 of band commensurate to skills and experience.

- Significant experience in building agile mindsets at scale, shifting from agile teams to enterprise-wide agility.
- Adapting governance and controls to be more fit for purpose for iterative delivery
- Advancing our agile maturity - championing its evolution from a delivery framework to a strategic capability.
- Demonstrated success in large-scale Agile organisational transformations and demonstrated role modelling of agile learning principles (including but not limited to “inspect and adapt”)
- Proven experience in delivering major projects and programmes of work using a range of delivery methodologies - waterfall, agile, and hybrid in large organisations, across public and private sector
- Proven experience in driving successful adoption of new ways of working, mindset and behavioural change, and culture change around digital delivery across all levels of the organisation
- Advanced relationship management and communication skills and an ability to translate concepts into effective outcomes and delivery
- Deep understanding and experience with a range of Agile methodologies and frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, SAFe, etc.)
- Sound knowledge and experience with Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
- Proven experience in leading teams working in a matrixed environment
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to provide strategic guidance and adaptive leadership
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills
- Experience providing enterprise-wide coaching for executives in large public or private sector organisations
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively as part of a collegial leadership team
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public service.

- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience at a senior level
- Advanced Agile coaching certifications (ICAgile, SAFe, ICF)
