Te Tūranga – About the role
As Head of Compliance, you’ll lead the delivery of strategic and operational compliance services across Foodstuffs North Island and its Members. Reporting to the General Counsel, you'll be responsible for ensuring strong governance, managing regulatory risk, and embedding an effective compliance culture. This role plays a key part in shaping our future capability — enhancing systems, frameworks, and team resources to support a modern, risk-aware business.
You’ll work closely with senior leaders and the Audit & Risk Committee to provide assurance, influence key decisions, and drive alignment across multiple compliance functions, while keeping pace with emerging legislation.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the evolution of the FSNI Compliance Framework across the business and Member network.
- Provide strategic advice and assurance to the Executive, Board, and Audit & Risk Committee on compliance and risk.
- Design and maintain compliance policies, registers, and risk controls.
- Drive the development of systems, tools, and training to support compliance capability uplift.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and build a proactive monitoring system to identify and mitigate compliance risks, potentially before they turn into incidents and/or breaches.
- Foster collaboration across internal teams (legal, audit, safety, risk) and external stakeholders.
- Represent FSNI on governance groups and support legal innovation, including the adoption of compliance technologies.
- Uphold high ethical standards and be known for promoting a culture of integrity within the organisation.

You’re a seasoned compliance and risk professional with a strong track record of operating at a senior leadership level. With deep expertise in regulatory frameworks — you bring a strategic mindset, operational excellence, and the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation. You’re known for your collaborative leadership style, strong planning and communication skills, and a proactive approach to driving change and embedding a culture of compliance.
Your experience has seen you shape and implement enterprise-wide compliance frameworks, lead high-performing teams, and work closely with senior leaders and Boards to provide trusted guidance on complex risk matters. You’re curious, adaptable, and open to learning — always looking for ways to innovate and strengthen organisational capability.
You’ll bring:
- 7+ years’ experience in risk, compliance, and/or assurance, ideally in senior leadership roles.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to the consumer sector.
- Proven success in designing and implementing enterprise-wide compliance strategies.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead through complexity and change.
- A collaborative, driven approach with a focus on continuous improvement and learning.
