About the Role

The Regional Group Manager for Funding & Planning is responsible for leading the planning and funding of Hauora Māori services across the region, ensuring they are efficient, safe, and effective for iwi, Iwi Māori Partnership Boards (IMPBs), Hauora Māori partners, and communities. This involves respectful and effective engagement with hapū, iwi, and partners to achieve shared outcomes, continuously improving service quality to ensure accessibility, timeliness, and cultural comfort for whānau. You provide and receive strategic advice to support regional planning aligned with government health priorities, such as equity and improved outcomes for Māori. You also assess and adapt plans as needed to meet the evolving needs of whānau, hapū, iwi, hapori, and government.

About the Team/Service/ Location

As the Hauora Māori Service of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) our core role is to ensure New Zealanders have better and more timely access to health care. The devolution of resources and decision making to the regions ensures those closest to service users and whānau are involved in decisions on how healthcare is delivered. We are committed to ensuring our operating model is responsive to the needs of Māori.

About you

As an experienced leader in service planning, funding, or commissioning, you bring confident and engaging communication skills, along with a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within the health sector.

You will have:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience, including leadership experience at a senior level
  • Demonstrated experience with working with iwi, hapū, and Māori health providers
  • Strong understanding of the Pae Ora Act, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and relevant health legislation
  • Experience in leading significant programmes of work from development to implementation
