About this role:
Our Communication team has undergone some exciting changes. Our newly implemented Trust and Confidence Strategy ensures visibility and responsiveness - making meaningful connections between who we are and what we do by improving the way we respond, listen and communicate with our residents and customers.
We currently have two fixed-term opportunities available within the team — one at a mid-level and one at a senior level. These roles will contribute to the successful implementation of our strategy through leadership and delivery of excellence in communication and engagement practice.
What you'll do:
In these roles, you will provide strategic advice and planning on all things communication and engagement. You'll help create strong connections, build sustainable relationships, and develop targeted, relevant communications that reflect the needs of our communities.
You'll serve as a key contact for communication and engagement efforts, supporting elected members and helping to build the organisation's overall communication and engagement capabilities.
You'll also have the opportunity to coach, advise, and support staff to engage effectively with our customers and community. Collaborating across the business to deliver tailored communication and engagement activities that support council initiatives and project deliverables is a key part of these roles.
What you'll bring:
The ideal candidates will have at least five years of experience in communications or marketing, a relevant degree (or equivalent experience), a strong track record in producing high-quality materials, and excellent relationship-building skills.
You'll demonstrate a commitment to Waikato District Council's values, including Zero Harm (safety in the workplace), Te Ao Maaori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, drive to succeed, and digital fluency are also essential.
Why join our team?
Our team is dynamic and innovative - we're committed to improving transparency and building trust with our communities.
We foster a collaborative culture with a solid work-life balance. Enjoy flexible work options, generous leave provisions (including birthday leave and work-life days), free flu shots, free parking, and an active social club.
We welcome diverse skills and experiences, so if you're looking for a chance to elevate your career, enjoy variety, and have an interest in local government, this could be the perfect role for you!
Note: Applications may close early if a suitable applicant is found. Please do not wait to submit your application if you feel this job is for you!
